Authorization and scope come first
We identify domains, applications or networks your organization has authority to authorize. Objectives, time windows, test accounts, exclusions and emergency contacts are agreed. External provider conditions are reviewed before work affects their services. Assessment starts only with clear permissions and rules, including a procedure to stop tests that could affect availability or expose information beyond the boundaries of the engagement.
Depth matched to the objective
Configuration reviews, vulnerability assessments and penetration tests have different scopes. The appropriate depth follows criticality, recent changes and budget. Execution requires suitably capable personnel, whether directly assigned or supplied by a specialist provider identified in the proposal. Findings are validated within permitted limits, avoiding the collection or retention of sensitive information that is unnecessary to demonstrate the issue and its relevant business impact.
Findings that support decisions
The report describes relevant evidence, impact, priority and remediation recommendations. Technical results and an executive view help assign owners. A follow up review of fixes can be contracted with defined scope. An assessment reflects the environment and time examined; it does not certify the absence of future vulnerabilities. Evidence handling, delivery and deletion are agreed to protect the information entrusted to the engagement.
